Jasper-Yellowhead Museum & Archives

Our Historical Gallery includes exhibitions on the fur trade, pioneers, the railways, and early tourism in Jasper National Park. Among the artifacts on display are Curly Phillips’ canoe and the ice axe recovered from Mount Alberta.

The exhibitions in our Showcase & Alcove Galleries change several times a year. These galleries feature exhibits which are culturally and historically significant to the area. Our gift shop features a wide selection of adult and children’s books, artwork and crafts by local and regional artists.

Jasper-Yellowhead Museum & ArchivesThe Jasper-Yellowhead Museum and Archives house over 4,000 artifacts in the collection storage. Some of the more interesting items include woolen bathing suits worn at Miette Hot Springs, wooden shovels used on the Skyline Trail in 1911, and many beautiful examples of Suzette Swift’s beadwork.

The Archives’ holdings include: a library of historic books, periodicals, and pamphlets pertaining to the human and natural history of the region as well as more than twenty metres of manuscripts, personal and business papers, diaries, and memoirs. The photographic holdings include over 4,000 items in the form of negatives, prints, albums, and transparencies; also available are more than fifty cassette tapes, some of which are significant oral histories.
