Fort Saskatchewan NMWPThe Fort Saskatchewan community entered history well over 200 years ago with its original industry of canoe building. In the spring of 1875, the North West Mounted Police (NWMP) arrived to build a NWMP Fort and a community soon began to develop adjacent to the fort.

The three acre Fort Saskatchewan Museum and Historic Site has eight heritage buildings furnished with period pieces that form a picturesque historic village serenely overlooking the North Saskatchewan River.

New to the Historic Site is the 1875-1885 NWMP Fort. The Men’s Quarters and Officers’ Quarters are now open for tours. Visitors are invited to come and see how the men of the NWMP lived in 1875 - 1885.
